Dates, checklists and where to look things up.

The handful of things clients call the office about most. Bookmark the page and skip the phone queue at the IRS.

Storefronts along the main street of a Michigan town.
A Michigan main street — these dates apply to every door on it

01

Deadlines

What is coming up.

Federal dates. Michigan generally follows the federal individual deadline.

Third quarter estimated payment

Self-employed and anyone paying estimates for 2026

Extended 2025 individual returns due

Anyone who filed an extension in April

Fourth quarter estimated payment for 2026

Self-employed and estimate payers

W-2s and 1099s out to workers

Employers and anyone who paid contractors

2026 S-corp and partnership returns

S-corps and partnerships

2026 individual and C-corp returns, and the first 2027 estimate

Almost everyone

One caveat

When a deadline falls on a weekend or a federal holiday it moves to the next business day. If a date matters to your money, confirm it with the office rather than a website — including this one.

Track a refund

Where is my refund?

Three different agencies, three different trackers, three different schedules. The office cannot make any of them move faster.

Federal refund

The IRS updates once a day. Have your Social Security number, filing status and exact refund amount ready.

IRS refund status

Michigan refund

Michigan Treasury runs its own tracker on a separate schedule from the IRS. A federal refund arriving does not mean the state one has.

City income tax

Detroit has its own income tax, administered by Michigan Treasury. If you live or work in a city that levies one, it is a separate return.

These links go to the IRS and the Michigan Department of Treasury. Mega Financial does not operate them and cannot see their systems. If a tracker says something you do not understand, call the office and we will read it with you.
